Since our founding in 1974, Jhpiego has made enormous strides as an organization and a global leader in saving the lives of women and families worldwide. Although our mission has remained essentially unchanged, how we go about it has continued to evolve, based on the changing needs of the countries where we work and our growing experience. As Jhpiego’s technical expertise has steadily expanded, our programmatic and organizational approaches have become increasingly field-driven and field-based—more practical, more flexible, more sustainable.

Currently we have more than 60 active programs in over 50 countries, saving lives in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe. Click on the interactive map to learn more.

Latin America and the Caribbean

Jhpiego began working in Africa in the late 1970s when we conducted our first training activities in Tunisia and Kenya. Currently, Jhpiego is active in 25 African countries. A course for South Korean health care providers in 1975 marked the beginning of Jhpiego’s work in Asia, the near East and Europe. Since then, Jhpiego has transferred skills in training, family planning, and maternal and neonatal health to thousands of providers in more than 20 countries in the region. Jhpiego’s field work began in Latin America and the Caribbean region, starting with programs in Brazil and Colombia. Through the years, Jhpiego has been active in various countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
