Jhpiego took the opportunity this Valentine’s Day—a worldwide holiday celebrating love and romance between two people—to talk about gender-based violence. Did you know that as many as 1 in 3 women has been beaten, coerced into sex or in some way abused?
Gender-Based Violence affects more than 1 billion women worldwide.

Do you know a midwife whose work has contributed to the advancement of midwifery? Jhpiego and the International Confederation of Midwives will present the Jhpiego/ICM Pillar of Midwifery Award at the 2014 ICM 30th Triennial Congress, June 1-5, 2014 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Nominate an Outstanding Midwife

Selection Criteria: A nominee should:

  • Be working in a low- or middle-income country that is high burden for maternal and neonatal deaths Be actively working in the public or non-profit health sector, in clinical work, education, research or outreach, having an effect beyond one hospital or unit;
  • Provide an example of commitment to one of the three ICM pillars of Education, Regulation, or Professional Associations
  • Show respectful care for women, newborns, families, as well as co-workers;
  • Be a positive role model - dynamic, motivated, passionate, and an agent for change;
  • Remain up to date with current midwifery practice;
  • Promote and participate in building a positive work environment, including staff growth, mentorship, learning, and development.

Application instructions:

  • The application must be accompanied by a description of the nominee’s career history and description of why this person should win the award based on the selection criteria above. Please provide specific examples of how the nominee has demonstrated commitment to midwifery, including examples of the nominee’s leadership qualities and impact for maternal or reproductive care.
  • Complete the online form and submit by 31 March 2014. Both nominations and self-nominations are welcome.
  • COMPLETE nomination forms must be received by the deadline of 31 March 2014 to be considered.
