Leslie D. Mancuso, PhD, RN, FAAN

President and Chief Executive Officer

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Jhpiego, Dr. Leslie Mancuso leads a global organization with a budget of $40 million, a staff of more than 270 professionals and programs in more than 50 countries. Jhpiego is a 33-year-old international health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Jhpiego builds global and local partnerships to enhance the quality of health care services for women and families through training and support of health care providers in limited-resource settings throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Mancuso spent 13 years at Project HOPE, a $110 million operation, serving as Acting Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President for International Operations. Among her responsibilities there, she managed relationships with boards in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany and Switzerland and led the establishment of the first children’s hospital in China to meet international standards. Dr. Mancuso joined Jhpiego in 2002.

In 2005, Dr. Mancuso received the prestigious Archon Award from the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, and was honored as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2004. In 2003, she received the Lillian Sholtis Brunner Award for Innovative Practice in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia. Dr. Mancuso was recognized with the 2002 Maryland International Business Leadership Award from the World Trade Center Institute, Baltimore, for her pioneering work in maternal and newborn health care. She also received the 2001 Pediatric Humanitarian Award from Janetti Publications in the journal Pediatric Nursing. Dr. Mancuso serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Association Executives, U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, Inc., World Trade Center Institute, Goodwill Industries International, Inc., Healthcare Business Women’s Association and The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Dr. Mancuso also serves as the Chairman of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, Inc. Health and Life Sciences Committee and on the Baltimore City Mayor's Advisory Council on International Affairs.

Dr. Mancuso received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Southern Connecticut University, a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and a doctoral degree in organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed the Executive Leadership Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
