Dr. Leslie Mancuso participates in global health panel at Milken Institute Global Conference
25 April 2007
Jhpiego President and CEO, Dr. Leslie Mancuso, joined more than 3,000 of the world's
leading decision-makers for the 10th Annual Milken Institute Global Conference, which was held
from 23-25 April 2007 in Los Angeles, California.
On
23 April, Dr. Mancuso, Dr. William Frist (Former Majority Leader, U.S. Senate), Dr. Helene Gayle
(President and CEO, CARE USA) and Dr. Seth Berkley (President and CEO,
International AIDS Vaccine Initiative) participated in a panel discussion on Global Health. The panel,
moderated by Ms. Bachi Karkaria (Consulting Editor and Columnist, The Times of India), addressed
key issues facing global health today.
Dr. Mancuso used the opportunity to discuss Jhpiego's programs in cervical cancer,
maternal health, male circumcision, malaria and infectious diseases. She stressed that these important
global health issues require long-term, sustainable solutions, not quick fixes. Other themes
discussed by the esteemed panel included human resources for health, the divide between rich
and poor nations, the need for innovation and public/private partnerships. The engaging session
raised many important issues and resulted in spirited dialogue that continued long beyond the
conclusion of the panel presentation.
Jhpiego wishes to thank the organizers of the Milken Global Conference
for highlighting global health and providing this important forum for leaders in the field to
unite in constructive, thought-provoking dialogue.
