Jhpiego 2^nd Asia Regional Single Visit Approach using VIA & Cryotherapy Clinical Training Course

Jhpiego is pleased to announce an upcoming training course in Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and cryotherapy. This week-long training is an intensive hands-on clinical practice on the Single Visit Approach (SVA) to preventing cervical cancer. The course will also integrate teaching of clinical training skills to assist participants who complete this course to teach other providers in their own countries.

Dates: March 22-29, 2009

Location: Manila, Philippines

Fee: $2,800 per person (includes trainer fees, course materials, lodging for seven nights, breakfast and lunch, clinic fees, local transportation and social events)

Course Goals

• Influence in a positive way the attitudes of the participant toward the benefits and appropriate use of VIA and cryotherapy.
   
• Provide the participant with counseling skills needed to talk with women about cervical cancer testing using VIA and outpatient treatment of precancerous cervical lesions with cryotherapy.
   
• Provide the participant with the knowledge and skills needed to perform VIA and cryotherapy.
   
• Provide the participant with the knowledge needed to manage side effects or other problems related to the treatment of precancerous cervical lesions with cryotherapy.
   
• Provide the participant with skills and resources needed to replicate the VIA and cryotherapy training for other providers.
   
• Provide the participant with the knowledge and skills needed to begin offering VIA and cryotherapy services in their home countries.

Audience and Trainers

The course is designed for a small group of healthcare workers who are currently providing women's healthcare services. Ideally the team will comprise of two or more physicians, or a combination of physician and nurses or midwives, who will work together to establish the SVA in their home countries. The number of participants at this course will be limited to maximize learning and skills development.

The clinical trainers who will conduct this course are experienced providers and trainers who have facilitated SVA training courses and implemented cervical cancer prevention programs in Asia and Africa. Training will be conducted at functioning SVA service points where qualified clinical preceptors are on hand to mentor and guide participants during clinical practice.
