Measuring the Effects of Behavior Change Interventions in Burkina Faso with Population-Based Survey Results
The Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) Program started a pilot project in the Koupéla district of Burkina Faso in 1999. The project sought to increase informed demand for, and use of, skilled providers during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum/newborn periods while increasing the operational capacity of the district health system. The MNH Program developed a model process for team building, using the concept of birth preparedness and complication readiness, which is now recognized nationally and has been replicated in other districts. This report evaluates the Program's efforts to change levels of knowledge and reported safe motherhood behaviors. (2004) Available in English.
