Measuring the Effects of Behavior Change Interventions in Nepal with Population-Based Survey Results
As part of its work in Nepal, the Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) Program supported the National Health Education, Information, and Communications Centre (NHEICC) in its efforts to develop and implement the SUMATA initiative. (SUMATA is a Nepali acronym for "Care, Share, and Prepare.") The integrated information, education and communication/behavior change intervention was launched on 8 March 2002 as a multi-level strategy. This report evaluates the Program's success in helping promote adoption of appropriate maternal and newborn health behaviors, and increasing access to and use of safe motherhood services.
