Stacie Stender

Stacie Stender is the project director of Enhancing Global Health Security, a Jhpiego-led, multi-country global health security program funded through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Through this five-year project, Jhpiego is strengthening regional, country and subnational level health systems for the current COVID-19 pandemic and for emerging infectious disease threats—such as viral hemorrhagic fevers and antimicrobial resistance—across countries in South America, sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Ms. Stender, a family nurse practitioner, is a clinician, policy analyst and advocate with extensive experience measuring and evaluating health outcomes, leading technical approaches for quality program design and implementation, and collaborating with donors, government counterparts, local organizations and program partners. A specialist in infectious disease with 20 years of experience working across sub-Saharan Africa supporting HIV and TB programs, Ms. Stender also serves as technical lead for Jhpiego’s efforts to prevent, detect and respond to COVID-19—from increasing awareness of infection prevention and control to providing testing services and supporting countries’ immunization efforts.
