Dara Schapiro Schnee
Special Gifts Officer, Kennedy Krieger Institute
Dara Schapiro Schnee works in the Office of Philanthropy at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an internationally recognized hospital dedicated to improving the lives of children with developmental disabilities. As director of major gifts, her focus is on the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury, and she heads the Women’s Initiative Network for Kennedy Krieger. Schnee is a graduate of Rollins College, where she received her BA, and then continued on to the University of Pennsylvania to receive her MSW. Her educational focus was on crisis intervention and child development. Schnee has an accomplished background in the social work and the nonprofit worlds, and has lived and worked in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Baltimore. As a volunteer, Schnee has held numerous positions for Jewish and broader community service organizations, including the National Young Leadership Cabinet. She served as a board member of the Zimmer Children’s Museum in Los Angeles, chaired events at area schools, and led numerous events and committees for The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. She is a 2012 graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program, a two-year leadership program.
Presently, Schnee sits on the board of trustees at the Gilman School and is very active in the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle. She also serves on the Family Philanthropy Committee of the Center for Funds and Foundations. She is a past board member of the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation through The Associated and past board member for the Center for Jewish Education. She is married to Dr. Charles Schnee, and they have three wonderful children, Max, Lucas and Kate.
