In 1993, 24 health providers from across Africa traveled to Zimbabwe to attend a clinical training skills course led by Dr. Richard “Rick” Sullivan, the late Dr. (Mrs) Ayo Akiwumi and Prof. Emmanuel “Dipo” Otolorin. During that course, a participant, Abigail Kyei, was so inspired she wrote the ode featured below.
Ms. Kyei later joined Jhpiego and rose to become the organization’s Country Representative in Malawi before leaving the organization. As Dipo recalls, “That write-up was very inspiring and this 40th Anniversary gives us an opportunity to reflect back to see if her expectations have been met. It will also be interesting to know where all these alumni are 19 years after!”
