Putting Breasts to the Test

Breastfeeding within the first hour after birth has the potential to save over 800,000 newborn lives. A mother’s breastmilk supplies the essential nutrients a newborn needs to thrive and supports an infant’s frail immune system. As we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP), led by Jhpiego, is working with mothers around the world to promote exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of a baby’s life.
