MOMENTUM announces project to save mothers and newborns in Indonesia

Despite concerted efforts, high maternal and newborn mortality remains an intractable problem in Indonesia. Two mothers and eight newborns die every hour in the country. The Government of Indonesia is committed to saving the lives of mothers and their babies and improving their access to quality care. USAID’s flagship program MOMENTUM is collaborating with the government to accelerate progress toward achieving the country’s maternal and newborn Sustainable Development Goal targets.

MOMENTUM will build on the results of USAID’s long-standing health partnerships in Indonesia and work across the public and private sectors in more than 30 high-priority districts. MOMENTUM will enhance the capacity of health care providers, strengthen data for decision-making and adaptive management, improve referral networks and develop sustainable, replicable and scalable models for reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths nationally through improved quality of care.
