Our impact

  • In the space of a single year, Jhpiego’s support contributed to a 33% increase in the institutional birth rate at targeted health care facilities from 7,586 (April 2016) to 10,121 (March 2017).
  • In a two-year period, 408,715 individuals were tested for HIV and 7,196 new patients were put on antiretroviral therapy; 12,027 patients are currently on antiretroviral therapy in project-supported facilities. Additionally, Jhpiego introduced a mobile clinic approach to provide HIV testing and treatment previously inaccessible for more remote communities.
  • The Maternal and Child Survival Program supported the provision of comprehensive reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services (including family planning) at 164 health care facilities, ensuring continuous basic family planning services at all sites and transitioning 102 sites to offer at least one long-acting contraceptive method.
  • Jhpiego supported technical working groups to develop or update national guidelines, including for cervical cancer prevention, antenatal care/postnatal care, and maternal deaths surveillance and response.

Current programs

  • Maternal and Child Survival Program

The U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Global Health’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. MCSP is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, MCSP provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local, sustainable RMNCH programs.
