Jhpiego and Baltimore City Health Department’s COVID-19 response
Jhpiego is drawing upon its global experience in capacity building and contact tracing to provide training, technical assistance and ongoing support to the Baltimore City Health Department’s COVID-19 response and to the Baltimore Health Corps. The Baltimore Health Corps is a health and jobs recovery program to hire and train more than 300 people to conduct COVID-19 contact tracing and care coordination across the city. In a time of record unemployment, this initiative is generating long-term career paths while at the same time supporting the city’s public health response to COVID-19. The scope of Jhpiego’s support includes the development and provision of training, ongoing implementation and performance support, metrics and reporting, human resources and operational management, provider outreach, and support for public health education and community engagement. Jhpiego’s role on this initiative is funded by the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health via Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Baltimore City Health Department through the Mayor’s Office. Baltimore Health Corps, which has the potential to be a national model for a federal public health jobs program and an economic driver for local communities, is supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and various other partners including the Baltimore Ravens and Blaustein Family Foundation. COVID-19 Case Investigation and Contact Tracing for the U.S. Capitol Community
With funding awarded by the U.S. House of Representatives, a Jhpiego-led consortium is implementing a one-year project to provide comprehensive and rapid COVID-19 case investigation, contact analysis, tracing and notification services for the U.S. Capitol community in Washington, D.C. Jhpiego is providing overall leadership and ensuring seamless coordination with the Office of the Attending Physician and other units within the Capitol campus, as well as D.C. Health and other Health Departments in the District, Maryland and Virginia area. In addition to providing training, day-to-day oversight and quality assurance, Jhpiego is developing and maintaining an electronic data portal to track cases and contacts. Consortium partners are the Midtown Group, which is hiring and managing the contact tracing workforce, and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, which is providing epidemiologic analytic support.
