Our Work in USA
Jhpiego and Baltimore City Health Department’s COVID-19 response
Jhpiego is drawing upon its global experience in capacity building and contact tracing to provide training, technical assistance and ongoing support to the Baltimore City Health Department’s COVID-19 response and to the Baltimore Health Corps. The Baltimore Health Corps is a health and jobs recovery program to hire and train more than 300 people to conduct COVID-19 contact tracing and care coordination across the city. In a time of record unemployment, this initiative is generating long-term career paths while at the same time supporting the city’s public health response to COVID-19. The scope of Jhpiego’s support includes the development and provision of training, ongoing implementation and performance support, metrics and reporting, human resources and operational management, provider outreach, and support for public health education and community engagement. Jhpiego’s role on this initiative is funded by the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health via Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Baltimore City Health Department through the Mayor’s Office. Baltimore Health Corps, which has the potential to be a national model for a federal public health jobs program and an economic driver for local communities, is supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and various other partners including the Baltimore Ravens and Blaustein Family Foundation.
