Dr. Hardtman has more than two decades of midwifery experience as both a clinician and consultant for midwifery capacity building in diverse health care settings around the globe, specializing in midwifery and maternal and child health services in low-resource, conflict and fragile settings. She has deep experience and passion for the nursing and midwifery professions and is committed to elevating the voices of nurses and midwives. Born and raised in the Caribbean, she represents the North America/Caribbean region on the International Confederation of Midwives board. In 2021, she received the prestigious Dorothea M. Lang Pioneer Award from the American College of Nurse-Midwives. In addition to her role at Jhpiego, she maintains a clinical practice. As Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, she provides strategic guidance to Jhpiego on how to improve health care for all by advancing nursing and midwifery professions and practices, as well as how to address inequities in care.
